A mixed reality game that satirises receiving art criticism: performing creativity inside an absurd critical structure.
Made for the XR / VR project run by the RCA with Meta and the Korea National University of Arts. A two-person team: Lidi Fu and Nathan David Smith.

Shapeshifter is a mixed reality game: a satirical take on receiving art criticism, and on the pressure and monotony of performing creativity inside absurd critical structures. It started as a virtual gallery prototype in Bezi, where players could handle the artworks, take a closer look at Dalí’s Lobster Telephone, or break an artwork.
Tools: Bezi, Cinema4D

Once the Bezi prototype proved the basic gameplay, we moved on to a script and storyboards.

The look had to match the subversive, satirical tone. I designed an abstract-looking audience that talks to the player as they walk close in the XR space. The tools players pick up are realistic everyday objects, an absurd contrast with the audience.
